my reason for not saying the Pledge.

EDIT: i'm sorry. i wrongly stated in this blog that the Pledge of Allegiance was created in the 1940's. I must correct myself. it was actually written by a Socialist, but it was in 1892, and it originally said:

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

it was edited in 1923 to say:

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

and then in 1954, Eisenhower responded to Communist threats by adding "Under God" into it, and it then and now read:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

you can read more about the history of the Pledge here at this website:

Well, in response to recent events with people...i decided you all might want a bit of explaining. to those of you who don't know, i do not say the pledge of allegiance. i was recently called on this, and i think i may have gotten some people really mad at me for it. so i decided that you deserve to know why. i'm not atheist by any means. you know that. but there is more than one reason for not saying the pledge. i do believe in God, and i do support our country. remember that when you read this. i am not against America. but this is why i do not say the pledge.

first off, the pledge of allegiance was written when? in the 1800's? when the country was founded? no. it was written in 1892 by a Socialist. a Socialist. right there is warning bell #1. if a Socialist wrote it, he wasn't really thinking about the free republic of America, was he?

secondly. here is the main reason:

why pledge your allegiance to a piece of cloth that is a symbol of whatever the gov't decides to do? think about it: the flag is merely as symbol. if your allegiance is to the flag, whatever the government decides to make it stand for is what you're pledging your allegiance to. if America becomes a socialist nation(as it basically already is), the flag will still stand for America. it will just stand for Socialist America. Symbols change meaning. i refuse to pledge my allegiance to the symbol of a country that is very, very quickly becoming Socialist. i personally would much rather pledge allegiance to something solid. my mom and i decided that the Constitution would do very well. It spells out very clearly everything that this country was built for and everything that it was intended to be. it is set in stone. it won't be changed. symbols change. words don't. I personally would much rather pledge my allegiance to what our Founding Fathers built this great nation up to be as opposed to a symbol of what our nation is currently. that's my personal choice. that's my reason.

i hope that now you understand a bit better. i am not against America. i am certainly not Atheist. i simply believe in America, and everything that it was intended to, and can still be.

i thank you for reading and understanding.

peace and love to everyone,
Cody

There are a few problems with your thinking there. 1st, Where did you hear that the Pledge was written by a member if the socialist party, there is no proof to it, plus there is no rhyme, nor reason to why we would say the pledge if it were a socialist idea, maybe no it would, but we don't say the Pledge anymore. The other major problem with your post is that the flag does not symbolize what the government wants it to mean, but what you personally want it to mean. Lastly, I agree with pledging allegiance to the Constitution, but even the Constitution is not set in stone, the Founding Fathers even said that!!! It can be amended. It can be changed to fit whatever situations our nation is in.

P.S. - Our country was founded in 1776, not the 1800's.

i said 1800's, COMMA when our country was founded. two separate dates. i'm not that stupid. my mom researched the history of the pledge, and found the dude's name. she looked him up and found out that he was a member of the socialist party. she made sure to check her sources. it's not a socialist idea, but it was made by a socialist. that makes me suspicious of his intentions when writing it. yes, the constitution isn't set in stone. but it says much more than a piece of cloth. it has waaaay more meaning in my book. i have a constitution in my pocket. it symbolizes the country. it symbolizes America. and if America is socialist, it symbolizes socialist america. yes, the gov't doesn't choose what it stands for, but it simply stands for America. and America today is not something i want to pledge allegiance to. i'd much rather spend my time fighting for the old america; what our Founding Fathers wanted it to be. if they looked down at America today, they would cry. of this i am certain.

Yes our Founding Fathers would cry now, but the Constitution is not the answer to everything. I will pledge allegiance to America. The flag has no real power itself, but the freedoms that it symbolizes do. I will pledge my allegiance to the flag and more to the freedoms and rights that it symbolizes. If you are so set on making the Founding Fathers happy, you should do the same. Support the freedoms, but not the politicalns.

i'm not set on making the Founding Fathers happy. i'm set on making America what it should be. and what it should be is what the Constitution defines it as. yes, the Constitution isn't the answer to everything. the answer to everything is the Gospel we both believe in. but as far as the nation and it's economy go, the Constitution is the best we can follow short of making the country a Theocracy.

yes, pledge allegiance to America. more power to you. if that's what you believe and follow, awesome. i personally don't want to be associated with the socialist nation that America is and is becoming more and more every day. i believe in and love America. for that reason, i want to return america to what it is meant to be. what it is right now is a socialist, power-mongering, police-state, and that is not the true America. if the government quit flying the flag, i would pledge allegiance to it because it would stand for the real america. but america today is NOT the real america. it is NOT what america should be. yes, the flag can stand for whatever you want it to stand for. but to the world, the flag stands for America today.

btw, i just noticed that in my comment, i mentioned the constitution, then i started talking about the flag. when i said "it symbolizes the country..." i meant the flag, not the constitution there. sorry...
